Behind almost every purchase of an Italian product lies a decision that is barely visible online. If you are looking for pasta, you rarely learn whether it is bronze-drawn. With olive oil, the harvest date is often missing; with tomatoes, the PDO seal.
This is exactly the gap italien-shop.eu aims to close: not yet another product list, but the criteria you can use to decide for yourself – the way a good retailer in Italy would explain it to you.
My connection to Italy
What interests me about Italy is the combination of everyday culture and crafted quality – from Gragnano pasta to hand-painted ceramics. In the process, I have learned how large the differences are between seemingly identical goods.
My focus is on cuisine (pasta, oil, espresso) and craftsmanship. These are the areas I can say the most about; I treat other categories more cautiously.
How I work
Every recommendation comes with a reason. If a product is not suitable for a particular purpose, that is stated as well.
I do not test every single linked product in a lab. What I pass on are the buying criteria for each product group, compiled from manufacturer information, specialist sources and common knowledge. Recipes are editorially researched. In the end, the choice is yours.
